The Tribal Housing Board has the opportunity--and the responsibility--to promote safe and prosperous communities for Native families. Through strategic planning, you can create affordable housing for residents, provide economic development opportunities, create drug-free housing developments, address overcrowding and homelessness, and expand home ownership.

In this hands-on class, youíll examine the roles and responsibilities of Tribal Housing Authorities, Housing Departments, and Advisory Boards and discuss how your role guides the strategic planning process. Discover how you can integrate your IHP/Annual Performance Reports with your strategic plan, how you can plan for board turnover so that the work you do isnít re-done in a couple of years, and what you should be doing to effectively self-monitor. Weíll also discuss the unique role that tribal culture plays in the planning process. Learn what tools you can use to analyze your organization and its needs and how to actually develop a strategic plan.

During this class, youíll learn how to conduct a strategic planning session, how to prepare for the session and steps to take after the session. As you discover ways to establish a direction for your organization, youíll also understand how to evaluate the planís success and make necessary modifications.
