Cherokee Principle Chief Singles Out Language Preservation as a Top Priority

In his recent Cherokee Nation State of the Nation address, Principal Chief Chad Smith described the Cherokee Roadmap and 100 Year Plan the Nation has established. The three top priorities identified in the plan are jobs, language and health care.

Cherokee Secretary of State Melanie Knight declared, “To retain our identity, to retain a sense of who we are and our place in the world and our world view, we’ve got to learn our language.”
